This article is such a great read on work boundaries. Healthy boundaries are a struggle for many health professionals I know. https://ideas.ted.com/how-to-set-clear-work-boundaries-jayne-hardy/
How to set clear work boundaries:
1. Understand your worth
2. Be clear and concise
3. Manage and negotiate expectations
4. Identify your non-negotiables
5. Remote work needs boundaries too
6. Beware of burnout
It's important to reflect on your wellness, and what you think might be positively or negatively affecting it, and ways you can improve your wellness.
At Harmony Allied Health, I believe that every person deserves to live a life of purpose, connection, and empowerment — including autistic adults.
While many people associate Occupational Therapy (OT) with children, OTs play a vital and often transformative role in the lives of autistic adults too. My goal is to help adults on the spectrum gain a deep understanding of their unique strengths and challenges, and then use that insight to advocate confidently for their needs across every aspect of life — whether at work, at home, in relationships, or within the community.
Autistic adults often have rich and diverse strengths:
At the same time, they may experience challenges related to sensory processing, social communication, executive functioning (like organisation, planning, and time management), and emotional regulation.
As an Occupational Therapist, I help unpack these strengths and challenges in a safe, respectful, and affirming environment. We work together to map out how these traits show up in daily life and how they impact participation in meaningful activities. This collaborative self-discovery process is powerful — building self-awareness, confidence, and a sense of identity beyond diagnosis labels.
Once adults understand their own needs, the next step is learning how to advocate for themselves effectively. Advocacy is not about asking for "special treatment" — it's about creating environments and supports that allow each individual to thrive.
OT support can include:
Advocacy can occur in many areas of life: negotiating flexible work arrangements, requesting sensory-friendly environments, accessing further education supports, or navigating social relationships authentically.
When autistic adults feel equipped to understand and express their needs, they experience greater autonomy, fulfillment, and joy. They are not striving to "fit in" to a world designed without them in mind — they are building a life that honours who they truly are.
At Harmony Allied Health, I am passionate about walking alongside autistic adults in this journey. I'm here to celebrate strengths, gently support challenges, and empower every client to live a life of authenticity, connection, and wellbeing.
